Objective: To examine the weight of a material in a given
volume and how they compare for common materials.
Density is the weight of a given volume of something (such
as a cubic foot) divided by that volume. In the United States,
the units are frequently in pounds per cubic foot. To find
the density of the object below, first use the mouse to pick
it up and place it in the water container on the scale. Read
the volume of the immersed objet on the output. If the object
floats, use the hand to just push it under the water. Density
is the weight divided by the volume.
The following calculator gives an easy means to compute the
weight density of an object when the weight and volume are
known. First, select the units you want to use from the pull
down menus. Then enter the values on the left side and the
calculator will give the density.
