Groundwater Flow

Objective: To examine groundwater flow, its various forms, its importance to us, and its measurement.

Once water gets into the ground it does not necessarily just sit there, much of it is in motion. In some extreme cases there are underground streams of water flowing similar to those on the surface. In any case the types of materials in the subsurface, the faulting and bedding, the slope, the hydrological characteristics of the materials and the amount and locations of water all help define how the water will move once it enters the subsurface.
